Rogness Brewing Company

About Rogness Brewing Company

Located in the north Austin/Pflugerville area, Rogness Brewing Company specializes in creating small, handcrafted batches of beer. Debuting in March of 2012 with 2 beers, Rogness Brewing Company now delivers to Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Waco and the surrounding areas.

Our beer is sold in 22 oz bottles and also on draught. Ask for us in your favorite bottle shop or bar. Be on the lookout for our seasonal offerings and “Rogness Reserve” line, which are small batches bottled and kegged in limited quantities that will never be the same.

Co-owners Forrest and Diane Rogness come up with recipes while Jon Airheart handles brewing duties. Zach Zamora rounds out the crew as packaging manager. Our growing lineup of beers range from imperial IPAs to Scotch ales to spiced ambers and everything in between. Not to be pigeonholed and to keep things interesting, there is a focus on underrepresented and nontraditional styles.

Forrest and Diane have been married for 17 years and have a young daughter named Anna. Forrest started homebrewing in 1990 and purchased Austin Homebrew Supply in 1999. He holds a degree in Photography.

GIGANTOPHIS – Imperial IPA

Gigantophis was once a beast that could swallow you whole. But fast forward 40 million years and the roles are reversed. Like its prehistoric namesake, there is nothing small about Gigantophis Imperial IPA. We used over 2 pounds of hops per barrel in this monster. Bursting with citrus, pine and earthy notes in the aroma and flavor, Gigantophis finishes with a touch of French oak to round out the whole experience. Hop lovers and paleontologists unite! This is the journey you have been waiting for. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

Gigantophis pairs perfectly with ham, bacon, or Brontosaurus rib.

0123456789.0% ABV / 0123456780 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles.

ROOK – Scotch Ale

Mahogany in color, Rook has a bold malt character with woody notes. Peat smoked malt creates a distinctive earthy Scottish flavor that complements English toffee notes. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

Scotch Ale pairs well with pork, salmon or lamb. Serve with a brie or a smoked cheese.

JOIE d’ÉTÉ – Saison

Joie d’Été, which translates to “Joy of Summer”, is made with lemon zest and lavender flowers. Incorporating a Belgian Saison base recipe, this light and refreshing ale will help keep you cool during the 6 month Texas Summer. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

French provincial cuisine and aromatic Asian or Middle-Eastern dishes.

0123456.01% ABV / 0120123 IBU

HEFEWEIZEN

We had one simple goal with this: create a traditional hefeweizen wheat beer to combat the hot Texas climate. Picture bananas, cloves, and citrus fruit jumping off the Barton Springs diving board into a giant mouth. Your mouth. You win. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

Fruit, salads, fruit salads, light fish, and hard work.

0123456.01234% ABV / 01012345 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles.

OST – Porter

Rhymes with “roast.” Seven different malts and three different hops go into our Porter for a smooth yet complex flavor. Ost offers a bold roast flavor with a rich smoothness and a dry finish. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F to best reveal its chocolate, caramel, coffee, and roasted malt notes.

Food Pairings

Ost goes well with most meats, and robust cheeses.

0123456.01% ABV / 0123401234 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles.

TAXON – Texas Brown

TAXON – Texas Brown

In paleontology, a Lazarus taxon is a taxon that disappears for one or more periods from the fossil record, only to appear again later. And so our Texas brown ale got its name, being a somewhat popular homebrew style in the early 80s but kind of disappearing after that. Bigger and beefier than your standard brown ale, Taxon has rich, dark chocolate notes on the front palate complemented by a bold hop finish. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

aged Gouda, grilled steak, roast beef sandwich

01234567.0123456% ABV / 012340 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles.

VINTON – Blonde Ale

This blonde ale is great all year round but exceptional in the Summer. With just the right balance of hops and malt, this crisp, citrusy, smooth golden ale will quench your thirst and whet your appetite for more. Ideally served at 45 – 50°F.

Food Pairings

Vinton pairs perfectly with BBQ and spicy dishes as well as Summer foods such as chicken or bratwurst. Cheese pairings would include Monterrey Jack or Havarti.

012345.0123% ABV / 01201234567 IBU

Available on tap only.

YOGI – Chai Spiced Amber

More than a beer, this is a state of mind. Yogi has a rich copper color and fragrant aromas of chai. Saigon cinnamon, clove, ginger, cardamom, and black pepper create an exotic flavor profile. Caramel notes are offset by rich tannins. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

Pair with bold Asian foods such as Thai and Indian curry. Also pairs well with Tandoori chicken.

012345.012% ABV / 01230123456789 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles.

BELFORT – Belgian-Style Strong Ale

This is the first offering in our new “Rogness Reserve” line of beers. These are small one-off batches that will be bottled and kegged in limited quantities and will never be the same. Belfort is a Belgian-style Strong Ale with a beautiful crimson hue from caramel malts and hints of plum, grape and banana from the yeast. Grab a bottle or glass right now and a bottle for later. This beer will age well and develop subtle flavor complexities over time. Ideally served at 50-55°F.

Food Pairings

Pairs well with roasted meats or fish, and stinky cheese.

012345678.012% ABV / 0123012 IBU

Limited quantity available in bottles.

BELLA – Belgian-Style Golden

This Belgian golden ale features subtle yet complex flavors from the yeast that complement an earthy, citrusy finish. Ideally served at 45-50°F to best reveal its tart complexity with notes of apple, pear, and honey. Deceptively smooth, you’ll be tempted to down a dozen.

Food Pairings

Bella goes well with spicy foods such as Thai or BBQ, and robust cheeses.

0123456.012345% ABV / 012012345678 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles during the spring and summer.

SCHOPPE PRIVATE STOCK- Doppelsticke

Schoppe Private Stock Doppelsticke is a “double secret” version of the classic Altbier style. Brewed to a higher gravity (OG 1.085) than regular Altbier, it has a rich, malty flavor with a pronounced German hop flavor and bitterness. The grain bill consists of a base of Pilsner and Munich Type 2 malts with Caramunich and Caraaroma added for color and flavor. Magnum hops are used for bittering, Select Spalt for flavor, and Hallertau Mittelfruh for aroma. The beer is fermented with a German ale yeast strain and then lagered at cold temperatures to give a clean, crisp finish with a hint of fruitiness. This beer is a collaboration with Mark Schoppe. Mark has been homebrewing for over twenty years. He has won hundreds of awards at competitions over the years. Highlights include winning the Ninkasi Award at the National Homebrewer’s Conference in 2012 and 2015, and winning the Lone Star Circuit Homebrewer of the Year in 2011, 2012 and 2014. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

Smoked meatloaf, barbecue, Baba ghanoush.

010.0% ABV / 01234560123 IBU

Limited quantity available in bottles.

THORHILDUR – Belgian-style Quadrupel

Thorhildur is a Belgian-style quadrupel aged on oak chips and cubes. The third limited release in the Rogness Reserve series, Thorhildur is named after Diane Rogness’s mother, who is of Icelandic descent. She has battled ovarian cancer for over 3 years and endured more than 90 chemo treatments. Coming in at just over 10% ABV, we were inspired to create a strong beer to honor a strong woman. And just like its namesake, it is sure to age well. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

Roasted fowl, smoked meats, gouda, blue cheese.

010.0123% ABV / 01201 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles.

IAPETUS – Stout

Beneath all the coffee stouts, milk stouts, coffee milk stouts, and so on and so on, there lies a classic recipe. With Iapetus, we pay homage to the base style that inspired so many. In Greek mythology Iapetus was a God of time seated beside his brother Kronos. Like sand in an hour glass, beer can also be a measure of time, sip by sip. Darkness comes at the end of every day. Will you drink it or will it drink you? Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

Shepherd’s pie and cheesecake.

012345.012345% ABV / 012345012345 IBU

Available on tap only during the fall and winter.

BEARDY GUARD – Biere de Garde

The Biere de Garde (pronounced Beardy Guard) is the French cousin of the Belgian Saison. Sometimes lagered, sometimes amber, sometimes golden, always delicious. Our version is a reddish amber ale that finishes dry with an earthy spiciness. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

Pair with asiago cheese and duck, lamb or herb roasted chicken.

01234567.0123% ABV / 01201234567 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles.

MUDCAT – American Brown Ale

Mudcat is a limited release beer that was the winner in our 2014 ProAm homebrew competition. It’s a heavily dry hopped brown ale that was brewed with Corey Martin, president of the Austin Zealots homebrew club. He has won many other awards, most notably the 2011 Samuel Adams Longshot homebrew competition with his Munich dunkel.

Food Pairings

Aged Gouda, grilled steak, roast beef sandwich.

012345678.012345% ABV / 012340 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles for a limited time.

PRO-AM – ESB

Jay McEvers of the Austin Zealots homebrew club won our first Pro-Am competition earlier this Summer with this recipe. We scaled up the original 10 gallon recipe and Jay helped us brew a 15 barrel batch on our big brewing system. A mixture of American, German, and English malts and specialty grains are used in combination with traditional English hop varieties to create a beer that is truly an international concoction with a nod to the English origins of the Pale Ale style. This beer was served at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, CO, and was available in limited supply on draft and in bottles in central Texas. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

Pairs well with fish and chips.

0123456.012% ABV / 012340 IBU

Brewed in 2013. No longer available.

SCHOPPE PRIVATE STOCK- Heller Weizenbock

Schoppe Private Stock Heller Weizenbock is a pale version of the classic Weizenbock style. Though wheat bocks are usually reddish brown, our version is a deep golden color. It is brewed with Munich and wheat malts for a chewy, bready flavor, and hopped with German hops for a subtle, spicy finish. Flavors of banana and clove are contributed by the classic German wheat ale yeast. Ideally served at 50 – 55°.

Food Pairings

Lamb, venison, apple pie or banana bread.

01234567.0123% ABV / 0120123 IBU

Mostly on tap. Very limited quantity in bottles.

ROGTOBERFEST – Festbier

Rogtoberfest is a seasonal celebration for beer-loving taste buds. This malty lager features Smaragd, a relatively new German hop that helps to create a surprisingly aromatic fest bier. Put on your lederhosen and dust off that ceramic stein with the dragon handle. Prost! Ideally served at 45 – 50°F.

Food Pairings

Schnitzel, bratwurst, sauerkraut, pretzels, spätzle, and more Rogtoberfest.

012345.01234% ABV / 0120123456 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles during the fall.

BOOMSLANG – India Pale Lager

If you find yourself in a South African jungle it is wise to avoid the Boomslang, a highly venomous tree snake. But when you are back stateside it is wise to seek out Boomslang, the India Pale Lager from Rogness Brewing Company. In this hybrid style, the wonderful hoppiness of an IPA has been enhanced with the crisp, clean nature of a lager. 5 different hop additions and a longer fermentation create a delightful adventure for your taste buds. No mosquito net required. Ideally served at 45 – 50°F.

Food Pairings

Virtually limitless pairing possibilities including grilled meats, tacos, carrot cake.

0123456.0123456% ABV / 01234560 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles.

TITANOBOA – Triple IPA

The recent unearthing of Titanoboa was, for many, the most exciting fossil discovery since the T-Rex. A 48 foot snake that ate crocodiles with no effort deserves to have a beer named after it. After 60 million years in hiding, Titanoboa has been reborn as a triple IPA with 10 different hops added at 10 different times in the brewing process. The different additions create an aromatic and flavorful hop experience meant to counteract the bitterness. Featuring over 5 lb of hops per barrel, this is our most complex beer we have done to date and is truly the bigger, meaner brother of Gigantophis. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

Saucy bbq, salty cured meats and pungent cheeses.

0123456789.0123456% ABV / 01001 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles.

SOPHINA – Sour Ale

With Sophina we employed a sour mash in the brewing process to create a sharp tartness from lactobacillus. To counteract the sour bite we added pineapple juice after fermentation was complete. This provides a pleasant and almost tropical fruitiness that is further complemented by Mosaic hops added late during the boil. Ideally served at 50 – 55°F.

Food Pairings

Pineapple upside down cake, aged Brie, and other pungent cheeses.

012345.012345% ABV / 01012345 IBU

Available on tap and in bottles.
